Yellow Dress deals with the impending closure of a significant life chapter. Minimal in its composition and wistful in its intention, Lauryn sings her self-penned lyrics with surprising intimacy, hanging poignancy on the ends of every word. As she sings about the complex emotions that come with celebrating and mourning important relationships, the ethereal piano accents the space in between, while the relentless sound of the ticking clock not only checks off a unique box in the percussion column, but stubbornly reminds us that time is always passing, always fleeting.
